19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He defended four early opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
