A man who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his concerns.
She stated the man proceeded to play the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she added.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities once more.
She said the man then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five children.
